Your choices of colors I think is great. They bring a nice contrast to each-other. Black and yellow-ish, with an overall hue of brown from the smoke and clouds.
It might just be me but I do think that some of these cracks shown in the ground appear random? It feels like you added them for the sake of having more glowing cracks covering the charred earth.

That skull vaguely being shown in the background really adds that final touch to let you know that this is a dreadful place.

Thanks for the comment :)
Yes, most of the cracks are completely random. Of course most of them are in spots where I would think cracks could be, but as I don't really know that much about geology it is as good as random ;)
Btw, you are the first to see it's a skull in the background :D Actually I took a skull that I previously painted (also in my gallery) and deformed it a little bit.

Makes sense. I am not very good at geology either so I'd probably end up doing the same.

I got an eye for the little details.

I am from :iconprojectcomment: and this picture interested me so I will go and give my honest thoughts about it.

The picture looks, overall, well done in my opinion. You have a good eye on how the mountains and landscape should be formed and detailed.

However, the gas cloud that is currently clouding the picture is somewhat distracting. I know it is supposed to be there because of the cracks within the ground, but it's just annoying to see in a sense. I'd try to fix that if you can, because some features are being blocked out.

Where is the focal point of the picture? I'm currently have my eyes on two things: the dormant volcanoes or mountains and the dust that forms the face of an eyeless man. I'm constantly switching back and forth between them. You should try to focus only on one focal point. It would help. However, that may be just my nitpick since you could have intentionally thought different for this kind of depiction.

I know the cracks are opening with searing lava coming out of it, but it bothers me that one big crack is lacking some semblance of containing any sort of lava in it. I know it leaks gas, but would have been cool to see one large bright color of lava pop out much in the forefront of the picture. Everything is dark and it needed some extra light to it.

Overall, I'm alright with it. It looks well done and it looks like you depicted subject rather well. It's also unique. Thank you for painting this picture for us :). Have a good day. I'll rate this 8/10.

Hi and thanks for commenting :)
As you saw correctly, there is no focal point. Since it was just the main-menu background I had no intention of making something drawing the attention of the viewer more to it than other part of the picture. Instead, I intended to make a picture where you could always find something new, no matter where you looked at.
The idea of the large lava/fire pit is good by itself, but it didnt fit there for me, as I wanted to make thin lava lines, so it would look like veins of a living being ;)

Ah I see.

I can see that know about the veins. Thanks for clarifying for me.

Good job nonetheless.
